Joe’s early recognition of Pinot Noir’s potential in Oregon sparked a lasting devotion to this variety. Since 2002, sourcing fruit from the Willamette and Rogue Valleys has been a cornerstone of the winery’s philosophy, celebrating the state’s terroir diversity. The Pinot Noir program focuses on harnessing the natural acidity and tannins of each vineyard, resulting in wines that are both approachable and age-worthy.

For Dobbes Family Winery, Syrah represents an exciting frontier in Oregon winemaking. By embracing the grape’s versatility, they craft wines that reflect the unique terroir of each vineyard site. Smith-Cerne in the Columbia River Gorge, for instance, yields Syrahs with a savory, muscular profile. To accentuate these characteristics, winemaking techniques are tailored to each site, incorporating whole cluster fermentation and extended skin contact. This flexible, vineyard-driven approach enables the winery to create Syrahs that are true to their origins.

A passion for Rhone-Burgundy pairings sparked Joe Dobbes’ interest in white Rhône varieties, leading to a fruitful partnership with Quail Run Vineyards’ Michael Moore. Two decades of collaboration have resulted in outstanding Grenache Blanc, characterized by its terroir-driven flavor profile, crisp acidity, and mineral notes. The result is a wine that proudly represents Oregon’s white Rhône movement, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
